Perkins CTE

AEM joined nearly 500 organizations in signing a letter urging leaders on the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions to move forward with reauthorizing the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act.

Last updated over a decade ago, the bill modernizes career and technical education (CTE) programs administered by secondary and post-secondary institutions. The bill was subsequently passed out of committee unanimously.

Federal support for CTE programs provide critical education and training resources to the next generation of America’s workforce for a variety of industries requiring high-skilled labor, including equipment manufacturers and dealers, as well as their customers. Most notably, AEM supports efforts undertaken by the bill to increase work-based learning opportunities and align CTE programs with the needs and skill requirements of the industry and local employers.

AEM will now focus on encouraging leadership to quickly bring the bill before the full Senate for a vote and send a final version to the President for his signature. The U.S. House passed its version last year.
